RAV4 FOR 4
Wanting to celebrate the release of the new Rav4 SUV, Toyota in partnership with the BIG3 basketball league enlisted Gravity Jack to conceptualize and develop the Rav4 for 4 mobile app. Showcased at halftime of BIG3 games, the Rav4 for 4 app leveraged augmented reality to display both consumer insights into the Rav4 as well as a unique basketball-themed gaming experience.
The experience equipped users with an iPad and encouraged them to walk around the exterior and explore the interior new Rav4 to trigger exclusive AR content that highlighted the vehicle’s features. After learning about the car’s features, users unlocked a mini basketball game that was played in AR space. Celebrating the release of the Rav4, users raced against the clock to see how many not 3, but 4 pointers they could make before time ran out! The end result was a perfect blend of education and entertainment that brought the Toyota and BIG3 brands together.

THE PROJECT PROCESS
After sitting down with the client and understanding their goals for the project, our team quickly got to work and outlined a specific direction for the project that would meet their desired budget and outcome. From design to development we have communication is key. This is done through:
The marketing agency NCOMPASS approached Gravity Jack seeking a team capable of leading a project that combined the newly formed partnership between Toyota and the BIG3 Basketball league into one unique experience. Additionally, the experience was to be used during halftime of the BIG3 games and encourage attendees to interact with Toyota’s new Rav4 SUV. Gravity Jack’s solution was to create an augmented reality experience that places unique markers all along the exterior and interior of the vehicle. Using Apple’s iPad, users would scan the markers to prompt AR text that gives users insights to the Rav4’s consumer features.
Once the user completed exploring the car’s features, the app prompted a Toyota and BIG3 branded mini basketball game that was played within an augmented reality scene. Using their finger on the iPad, users would pull the basketball back and release it to launch a shot. The AR game featured a shot clock, scoreboard, and an exclusive 4-point shot to celebrate the release of the Rav4. Competing against their attendees of the BIG3 game, users would race against the clock to see how many 4-pointers they could make in a single session. In the end, the Rav4 for 4 was a great example of how the power of AR can be harnessed for any type of occasion.
This project’s wireframes included strategic planning that accounted for several different points along the vehicle that were to display AR content. All screens had the ability to direct users to the AR-based mini game.

Gravity Jack developed the entire experience Rav4 for 4 experience specifically for Apple’s iPad. Making an experience specifically for iPads madeit easier for Toyota to interact with the users while also providing a larger screen for the AR experiences.

Gravity Jack delivered a private app that was developed specifically for the Apple iPad that allowed Toyota representatives to equip the basketball game attendees with the ability to explore the new Rav4 and all if it’s features using augmented reality.

With an actual Rav4 present at BIG3 games, Gravity Jack wanted to deliver an experience thaty encourgaed users to interact with the car and its features. In addition to engagement with the car, Gravity Jack wanted to deliver an experience that will leave attendees with a lasting impression.
To accomplish the client’s goals for the project, Gravity Jack developed a series of AR experiences that allowed users to walk around the car and activate educational AR content. After the user explored all of the features via AR markers, the application presented the user with a mini basketball game that also leveraged augmented reality technology.
