AR REPAIRS USING 5G
On-demand, step-by-step instructions are the future of Augmented Reality’s capabilities. In a partnership with T-Mobile, Gravity Jack developed an application that unlocks these capabilities to showcase T-Mobile’s ultra-fast 5G network. Equipped with an iPad, users scan a high-pressure water system that isn’t functioning properly. In real-time, the app overlays dynamic 3D animations to provide the user with instructions to walk them through the steps to make repairs to the filter, gauges, and other components.
The experience leverages Augmented Reality to point out the parts and the repair process but also shows users the correct tools needed to complete the repair. Taking the experience to the next level, the T-Mobile real-time repair application capabilities can put users on a live video conference with up to five remote repair experts. During the call, the experts can draw on the screen to guide the user with any additional repairs. With the development of this project, the future of maintenance and training is here and happening.

THE PROJECT PROCESS
T-Mobile came to Gravity Jack looking for a futuristic experience that will put their 5G network to the test. Gravity Jack’s solution was to develop a mobile application capable of delivering real-time repair instructions in augmented reality while solely on the T-Mobile network.

AUGMENTED REALITY USER MANUAL
Teaming up with T-Mobile presented an exciting opportunity for us at Gravity Jack — the ability to create an Augmented Reality experience that will help shape the future of repair and maintenance practices. Gone are the days when customers bring a technician into their homes to have their equipment fixed. Using T-Mobile’s 5G network, Gravity Jack set out to create an application that can provide real-time repairs with Augmented Reality to anyone with a mobile device and a cell connection. To make this happen, Gravity Jack built a custom water pressure system that would require a series of repairs.
From there, our team developed a corresponding iOS application for iPads with the ability to scan and recognize the water pressure system. Once recognized, the app will:
- Overlay 2D and 3D content atop the pressure system
- Use animation to show users the correct steps needed to carry out tasks such as replacing the water filter, the pressure gauge, and checking the valves
- Highlight the tool that is needed to carry out any given repair
- Connect the user with up to five repair experts on a live video conference if extra help is needed
- Provide the experts with the ability to create real-time annotations to provide additional context
3D DEVELOPMENT
This project required that Gravity Jack recreated all of the individual parts from the actual pressure system into 3D models. This allowed us to overlay any necessary animations needed for the repairs.

WIREFRAMES
With a large combination of parts, repairs, and animations, Gravity Jack created a comprehensive set of wireframes capable of directing the user to the appropriate screen and/or action.

Blueprints for your project that outline the different screens and rough layouts.
TABLET DESIGNS
To ensure that the user gets the best view of all the necessary processes, this project was developed specifically for iPads with larger screens.

The Goal
T-Mobile was looking to push the boundaries of their 5G network by creating an impactful experience that will require a large amount of bandwidth
Gravity Jack’s Solution
Create an Augmented Reality experience that can identify an object and overlay real-time instructions on how to make any necessary repairs
The Result
An application that unlocks AR’s capabilities to showcase T-Mobile’s ultra-fast 5G network to provide dynamic animations to provide step-by-step repairs on a water pressure system
